UCLA’s Mindful Awareness Practices (MAPs): Introduction to Mindfulness: Mindfulness Practices for Daily Living six-week course is an excellent introduction to mindfulness for beginners.
This class series provides insight into the basics of mindfulness, how to develop a mindfulness meditation practice, and how mindfulness can be applied in daily life. It is also appropriate for an experienced practitioner who wishes to revitalize their practice. Students will learn Mindful concepts that include:
- Overview of Mindfulness
- Mindfulness of the Body
- Obstacles to Mindfulness
- Mindfulness to help with Physical Pain
- Working with Difficult Emotions
- Cultivating Positive Emotions
- Working with Difficult Thoughts
- Mindful Interactions
Students will be invited to begin practicing home meditation assignments starting at five minutes a day and working up to 20 minutes daily by the end of the course.

Frank Baird is a UCLA MARC Certified Mindfulness Facilitator. He has taught mindfulness to corporate staff (at Amgen, Disney, Fox Entertainment, ABC Studios and more), to therapy clients at Kaiser Permanente, and to community members in a variety of settings (including UCLA MARC’s Weekly Community Practice, The Den Meditation, Against the Stream and more). He provides group and individual instruction. He is a Mentor for MARC’s Long Distance Intensive Practice Program. He is a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT) and Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC).

UCLA MARC Cancellation and Refund Policy:
Class refunds requested two weeks or more before the class start date will be assessed a $25 administrative fee. We regret that we cannot give refunds after this date. Refunds should be requested by email to email@example.com. Credit towards a future class will be provided if a registrant notifies us prior to 5pm Friday during the first week of class. Credit must be requested by email (firstname.lastname@example.org) and used by the next class series (i.e. cancellations in the July/Aug series must be used in the the Sept/Oct series).
MARC reserves the right to cancel classes due to low enrollment. Registrants will be notified in advance of the class.
No refunds or credits are given to registrant "no-shows".
Postponing a Class: Credit towards a future class will be provided if a registrant notifies us by email prior to 5PM on Friday of the first week of the class series. The future class must be taken immediately following the missed class series. NO EXCEPTIONS (for example: if postponing a May/June class series you will have to use your credit and enroll in the July/August class series).
Make-up Class: If you miss a class, you may make up ONE class in any other class at your level during the current series or the series immediately following. In-person classes only. No refund or prorate will be issued for missed classes.
